Children First/CIS Food Pantry Shopping List

On average, Children First/CIS provides over 700 food boxes to 200+ families annually. These boxes help supplement a families’ food budget so they can avoid a financial crisis that could lead to homelessness.

According to latest data, over 12,000 children are defined as being food insecure in Buncombe.
There are two main programs that address child hunger: the free and reduced lunch program at schools and the SNAP (a.k.a food stamps) program for families. There are about 16,000 children in Buncombe County served by each program. That is enough children to fill almost 300 school busses

Personal Care Items

People on fixed and limited incomes cannot use their SNAP benefits to purchase essentials such as diapers, soap, toothpaste and toilet paper. By providing these necessities, we can help families use their funds to pay for food, housing, and healthcare.
