A Prescription for Thriving Children – Success Equation Health Providers

The Success Equation, an initiative of Children First/CIS, unites our community to reduce poverty through education, collaboration and public policy advocacy.  We envision a community where all children can thrive, and our local health care providers are part of delivering on this vision!

The Success Equation policy agenda targets policies that offer effective interventions, supports and programs in three categories: early childhood, family supports and family economic security. We look to national and state policy expertise to guide our advocacy and policy agenda including:

The American Academy of Pediatrics 2016 report “Poverty and Child Health in the United States.

• The NC Perinatal Strategic Plan 2016-2020 that 125 maternal and child health experts from across the state developed.

We know that health providers care deeply about the well-being of children in our community. You’ve seen patients (and families) that have the odds stacked against them – lack of access to healthy food, unreliable transportation, housing insecurity or unsafe/unhealthy housing and lack of adequate health insurance. Providers do their best to treat patients’ conditions, but the opportunity to affect many of the upstream social determinants of health may not always be present. In addition, it can be challenging to find time for regular policy advocacy work that feels like a good use of your time, feels connected to your local community and feels hopeful (instead of reactive).

With that in mind, we ask you to take our advocacy diagnostic survey below so that we can engage you in meaningful ways based on your time availability and the issues that most interest you. Let’s assess your advocacy “vital signs” and create a child health advocacy plan of care that works best for you.
