Services at Children First/CIS Family Resource Centers
To receive a food box, you must have children living in the home and reside in the Emma Community, have a child enrolled in one of our three after-school learning centers or have your child on one of our Student Support Specialists caseload. Recipients need to bring proof of residency in the form of a bill or current piece of mail with address. To show proof of children living in the home, the recipient can bring a Medicare or Medicaid card or school records. The hours for getting a food box at the Family resource center in Emma are Tuesday 9:30-12:00; Wednesday 9:30-4:30 (closed 1:00-1:30). To receive a food box at Estes or Johnston Elementary, please contact the school.
To receive Emergency Financial Services to pay for rent or delinquent utilities you must have children living in the home and reside in the Emma Community or have a child enrolled in one of our after-school programs.
To receive children’s clothes from our clothing closet, you must have children in the home and live in the Emma Community or have a child enrolled in one of our three after-school learning centers.
This class is open to anyone in Buncombe County. MotherRead is a program that combines the teaching of literacy skills with child development and family empowerment issues. Parents learn to use the power of language to discover more about themselves, their families, and their communities.This class is offered to both English and Latino participants. - Take Patton Ave. West– away from Asheville
- Turn Right (at Kmart and Wachovia Bank) onto Louisiana Ave. (going North),
- Go over the railroad tracks
- At the Light – Turn Left onto Emma Rd.
- Take the next Right turn onto Brickyard Rd.
- Turn Right into Emma Elementary School, go up the hill
- Turn Left and head up the hill toward the playground
- Take a Right when you reach the top of the hill by the playground.
- Go straight towards the trailer next to the Community Garden and park in any available spot.
- The Family Resource Center is the tan trailer in the back with the wooden ramp.
