Learning Centers
Our Learning Centers provide a safe place after school for elementary-aged children living in Pisgah View Apartments and Woodridge Apartments, a public housing and Section 8 development, respectively. This free structured afterschool program serves 40 elementary students Monday through Thursday throughout the school year. Students receive homework help, eat a healthy snack, and participate in soccer, yoga, and dance.
Last year, 100 percent of students were promoted to the next grade!
Deaverview Homework Club
Elementary students living in the Deaverview community can receive help with homework and participate in enrichment activities Monday through Thursday at the Deaverview Community Center. Homework club provides a safe place for students to go after school and a chance for them to work with our Student Support Specialist and volunteers to enrich their academic achievement.
Eblen Homework Club and Working Warriors
Eblen Homework Club meets every Tuesday after school at Eblen Intermediate School. Homework Club is comprised of a small group of students who receive help with homework and enrichment activities from our Student Support Specialist and volunteers.
On Thursdays, these students gather together after school for the purpose of learning about job skills and career opportunities. The Working Warriors have the opportunity to hear from community members with interesting careers and attend field trips to area colleges and businesses. Research has shown the importance of introducing students to college and career at an early age. We hope to provide these opportunities and inspire our students to succeed in life.
Summer Camp
During the summer, we work to provide our rising third through sixth grade students with as many unique experiences as possible. From swimming to fishing and overnight camping, our 6 week summer camp is packed with fun for the students in the communities we serve. Students in the Deaverview community experience camp from 9AM-1PM each day while camp in the Pisgah View and Woodridge communities runs from 8:30-3:30. All three camps are run by Student Support Specialists, AmeriCorps members, and dedicated volunteers.
